A fantastic night was had by all at the paper flower workshop on Monday. As planned, the house was covered in blooms (paper and otherwise) and inspiration was plentiful.
Every guest received a little tool kit to get started including two beautiful sheets of Italian Crepe Paper.
We started the evening with a little introduction. Jo told us all about her background and art practise. She explored what’s hot in the world of paper right now, sharing the work of some wonderful paper artists. While introductory chats were underway we served up some nasturtium parcels and strawberry fizz and so began an evening of feasting on food inspired by the garden.
With no time to waste it was straight into creating and all the ladies got their concentration faces on while we prepared dinner for the group.
Once paper stamens were complete and petals were cut and ready to shape it was time for a food break. We served up little edible salad gardens with a tart soleil (a giant pastry sun) and Labne for dipping. It was demolished quickly and then busy hands were back to work.
As the night progressed beautiful blooms started popping up all over the table. It was fantastic to see them come to life and see how every student’s individual style came through in their work. The table was alive with stories and busyness and by the end it was covered in paper scraps and amazing handmade flowers.
After a quick pack up everyone sat down to a dessert of elderflower jelly and strawberry cream, a deserved reward for an evenings work. And then it was time to go home, buzzing with energy and armed with a wonderful new skill, bellies full and heads not far behind.
Stay tuned for a detailed post on what we ate and some recipes you won’t want to miss next week.
